It took until the middle of Hanukkah and just five days out from Christmas for me to finally get into the holiday spirit. I don’t know why it took so long. Normally I love buying and wrapping presents, but this year it felt like a chore. I love picking out and making food for holiday events, but this year it felt overwhelming. It took a fun morning with Bryce (and spontaneous cocktails at Central Standard) preparing for latke dinner with friends for me to get out of my funk.
Bryce took a nap and I turned up the holiday tunes, slapped on some gold makeup and a sequin skirt and I was ready. We had a blast with our friends Kyle, Nikki, and their pup, Bruce Wayne. I fried up a mountain of latkes that we demolished in a fraction of the time it took to make them. That’s how you know they’re good. The ultimate compliment!
We noshed on cheese from Clock Shadow Creamery, toffee from Indulgence Chocolatiers, and exchanged gifts partially purchased from Broadway Paper. I love living in a city full of such talent and delicious food! Of course, we also had challah so the next morning meant challah french toast. Yum!
This week I’m looking forward to Christmas with my family along with another latke dinner for the last night of Hanukkah. And I can’t wait to watch Bea destroy the toys I picked out for her!
