Brew Review: Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA

I think Bryce is totally loving that I’ve started these Brew Review posts. He came home with this beer (and another) and said, “Oh, they’re for your brew review!” Yeaaahhh, sure.

If you haven’t heard of or tried a beer from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Delaware then you are really in for a treat. Dogfish Head brews recently started being sold again in the great state of Wisconsin and all of my friends promptly lost their minds. (I can’t say I didn’t join them.)

Obviously I’ll get into more detail below, but I think it’s worth mentioning that if you are a beer newbie, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this 75 minute IPA quite yet. However, I still believe you NEED to get on the Dogfish Head bandwagon sooner rather than later. Start yourself off with a nice Namaste, okay? No really, that’s a beer — check it.

Beer: 75 Minute IPA (India Pale Ale)

Brewery: Dogfish Head

ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 7.5%

Price: $7.99 for a 750 milliliter bottle (good for sharing!)

Drinkability: If you haven’t had an IPA before, I wouldn’t start with this one. While I personally think it’s an easy drinking IPA, a beer beginner probably wouldn’t love it. The 75 minute has the usual IPA hoppiness, but is quite smooth and a little bit sweet.

Tastiness: Dogfish Head is known for their IPAs, particularly their 60 minute and 90 minute. This 75 minute is a blend of the two with some maple syrup thrown in to feed those yeasty boys.

Serve with: Something smoky. I had pizza, bad decision.

Tips: You will notice the label says this beer is bottle-conditioned. Essentially this means the yeast gets to stay and hang out in your bottle so it creates natural carbonation for the beer (instead of forced carbonation like you would have with an average beer or soda, etc).
